Ex-Manchester City Boss Manuel Pellegrini has taken Hebei China Fortune head coaching job

Hebei, China – Former Manchester City Manuel Pellegrini has been named the new head coach of Chinese Super League (CSL) side Hebei China Fortune, taking over from ex-Everton midfielder Li Tie, the club announced on Saturday.

Pellegrini, who was replaced by Pep Guardiola in June despite winning the Premier League in 2014 and guiding Manchester City to the semi-finals of the Champions League last season, is the latest high-profile manager to move to the booming Chinese Super League, joining Luis Felipe Scolari and Sven-Goran Eriksson.

The 62-year-old manager will take charge of a squad that features Ezequiel Lavezzi, Gael Kakuta and Gervinho, and until recently, was challenging for a place in the top three in the league.

Former Inter boss Roberto Mancini had reportedly been the Chinese club’s first choice as their new manager, but after the Italian rejected the role Hebei China Fortune turned to Pellegrini.

Pellegrini, who was Real Madrid boss in the 2009-10 season, has won national leagues in four different countries, including his native Chile.
