Marlon Byrd Suspensed 162 Games

Marlon Byrd of the Cleveland Indians has been suspended 162 games for violating the leagues substance abuse policy.

The 38 year old will begin serving his suspension immediately and will not appeal.

This is Byrds second time being busted for PED’s. He was suspended 50 games in 2012 after being released by the Red Sox.

Byrd had signed a minor league contract this year with the Indians but made the major league team after spring training. He was hitting .270 with 5 homers and 19 RBI’s in 115 at-bats this season.

The Indians have made roster moves to offset the loss of Byrd. They recalled outfielder Tyler Naquin from Triple-A and sent pitcher Shawn Armstrong to the minors.

Tom Gorzelanny will fill Byrd’s spot on the roster.
