Martin Demichelis joins La Liga side Espanyol

Barcelona, Spain – Former Argentina international Martin Demichelis has joined La Liga side Espanyol on a one-year contract following his departure from Manchester City this summer.

Espanyol announced the signing of the 35-year-old Wednesday afternoon and have already started a social media hashtag, “Welcome #DemichelisPerico!”

The Argentina international played 31 times for Premier League side City last term before leaving the club this summer.

Prior to moving to Manchester in 2013, Demichelis had spells at River Plate, Bayern Munich and Malaga.

The Catalan club have now added Roberto Jimenez, Leo Baptistao, Jose Antonio Reyes, Jose Manuel Jurado and Pablo Piatti to their roster for the upcoming season.

Espanyol received the most goals in First Division with 75 goals against. Demichelis will be presented at 1:15 on Thursday, Spanish time.
