Matt Harvey Has Been Placed On The 15-day DL With Right Shoulder Discomfort

New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey has been placed on the 15-day. This comes after Harvey had experienced discomfort in his right throwing shoulder.

Harvey will see doctors who specialize in thoracic outlet syndrome and other blood flow problems. He is scheduled to meet with Dr. Robert Thompson on Thursday to evaluate his shoulder and see what the problem is.

Logan Verrett will take Harvey’s place in the starting rotation. The Mets have also called up Seth Lugo from Triple-A to fill Harvey’s roster spot.

Harvey is two years recovered from Tommy John surgery but he has not had much success this season. In 17 starts, he is 4-10 with a 4.86 ERA. His last start before going on the DL, Harvey gave up 5 earned runs through 3.2 innings.

Matt Harvey’s injury does not come as good news to the Mets as they are already dealing with injuries on their pitching staff. Zach Wheeler is still about a month away from coming back from Tommy John surgery last season. Steven Matz and Noah Syndergaard are both pitching with bone spurs in their elbows that could flare up at any time.

If all the Mets pitchers can get healthy, the Mets will have a rotation that could carry them deep into the playoffs again.
