The Tampa Bay Rays have sent starting pitcher Matt Moore to the San Francisco Giants. The 27 year old lefty has had a mediocre season so far, posting a 7-7 record with a 4.08 ERA in 21 games started. He has 109 strikeouts over 130 innings pitched.

In return the Rays will receive third baseman Matt Duffy, Duffy’s batting line is .253 AVG / .313 OBP / .358 SLG those are decent numbers, but his power numbers are pretty low, 4 home runs and 21 RBIs however, with Evan Longoria over at the hot corner power at third base is not a necessity for the Rays.

Matt Moore is now the second left hander to join the Giants’ starting rotation. Moore will team up with Madison Bumgarner to help strengthen the Giants rotation.

Even though Moore has had a rough start to the season sometimes getting traded and working with a new pitching staff can help turn a season around. Just take a look at the progress James Shields made once he was traded to the Chicago White Sox and started working with Don Cooper.

The Giants’ are looking to turn around their poor start to the second half of the season and adding Moore could help the cause as Matt Cain has been struggling recently. Adding Moore to the starting rotation could help turn things around for the whole rotation.
