Matt Tifft cleared for competition by NASCAR

Driver of the No. 11 Red Horse Racing NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Toyota Matt Tifft has been medically cleared by NASCAR to return to competition after brain surgery on July 1st.

Tifft was originally scheduled to run 13 races in the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 Toyota along with 5 races on Camping World Truck Series Schedule for Red Horse Racing has been out of competition for just over two months after a benign low-grade glioma was discovered in late June. Matt Tifft was going under a scan for a back condition he has and that is when it was luckily found. Tifft has been recovering since his July 1st surgery.

Although nothing has been announced yet Tifft could return to action as soon as Friday for the Camping World Truck Series American Ethanol E15 225 at Chicagoland Speedway. Matt has been undergoing tests in a late model to get himself back up to speed in the car and get used to the scenarios a driver will go through in a typical NASCAR race.

Matt in today’s press conference went on to say “The big thing is just getting in the heat. Obviously, it’s been so hot lately, it’s a great test for that and being fatigued in the car and still seeing what that’s like. I’ve pushed myself in the gym probably harder than I ever did before this happened and just for that time when I do get in the car that I can hopefully be at that level or even better than where I was before.” However at race time on Friday night the heat is not expected to be an issue being in the low 70’s to high 60’s which is a lot more manageable for a driver in his first race back for medical issues than the weather in recent weeks.

As a member of the 2015-2016 NASCAR Next class, Tifft earned a pole earlier this season in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Talladega and also notched up two 8th place finishes in his three starts in the series. In the Truck Series Tifft had a best finish of 5th in his three starts before being sidelined.

Although it has not been officially announced when he will be back in the drivers seat Matt has been cleared and will be back this season to try to score his first career win.
