Matt Tifft Sidelined From This Weekends Races At Iowa With Back Condition


A double duty effort for Matt Tifft will not happen this weekend at Iowa Speedway after being diagnosed with a bad disk in his back.

Tifft was scheduled to drive the #11 Toyota Tundra for Red Horse Racing in Saturday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Iowa. He was also set to race the #18 Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing in Sunday’s Xfinity Series event. Under recommendation from his doctor, for treatment of a disc condition in his back, Matt Tifft will not be competing this week.

He will be replaced in Sunday’s Xfinity race by veteran Sam Hornish, Jr., making in his first NASCAR start of the 2016 campaign. Hornish has had several starts with JGR, including a win at Iowa in 2014’s spring race. He has also collected poles at Talladega and Mid-Ohio in 2014 with JGR equipment. However, No replacement driver has been announced as of this time for the Truck Series race.

Matt Tifft, a native of Hinckley, Ohio, has run six of 13 races this season on the Xfinity Series, with back-to-back eighth-place finishes in his last two starts at Talladega and Dover. He has also made three Truck Series starts in 2016, with a best showing of fifth at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
