Tottenham, England – Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has signed a contract extension which commits him to the club until 2021, the club announced Thursday.

Daniel Levy, Chairman, said: “We have seen Mauricio bring a tremendous spirit and ethos to our Club and embrace the attacking style of play with which we have always been associated. He has built a squad of youth and experience and this season we have seen football played at the highest level – quite sublime at times. Everyone at the Club is delighted he has agreed an extended contract and we all look forward to working with him in the coming seasons. I know he is as ambitious for our Club as we all are.”

Pochettino joined the Tottenham on May 2014 on a five-year deal and guided Spurs to a fifth-place finish in the Premier League and a League Cup final in his first season in charge.

In his third season with the club, the Spurs were challenging for the Premier League title until a bad-tempered 2-2 draw at Chelsea last week ensured Leicester City were crowned champions of England.

Just a few weeks ago, Pochettino was sited with Manchester United former boss Sir Alex Ferguson which later prompted rumors of a possible move to Old Trafford. Despite this, Pochettino believes he can bring trophies to Tottenham and has decided to stay.

“We have a long-term project and huge belief that we can achieve something big here for the future,” added Pochettino.

“This club has all the ingredients to continue to challenge at the very top in both the Premier League and in Europe.

“We want to be here to be a part of what I believe will be a special period in the club’s history.”

Assistant head coach Jesus Perez, first team coach Miguel D’Agostino and first team goalkeeping coach Toni Jimenez have also agreed extensions to their contracts.
