Middlesbrough Agree Deal To Sign Brad Guzan

Middlesbrough, England – Premier League newcomers Middlesbrough have signed Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan on a two-year deal, the club has announced.

The 31-year-old becomes boss Aitor Karanka’s eighth senior signing of the summer, which include former Barcelona and Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes.

The USA international, who played every game for his country as they reached the Copa America semi-final this summer, made 34 appearances for Villa last season.

The American has made a total of 170 appearances for Villa after joining from American side Chivas USA in August 2008.

Guzan is unlikely to be the final close-season signing as Karanka is very much in the market for a center-half. Karanka has turned his attention to Harry Maguire, the 23-year-old Hull City centre-half. However, Maguire is unlikely to be released cheaply and seems much needed at the KC Stadium where injury will sideline Michael Dawson for the first three months of the season.
