MLB Recaps 4/24/16

On April 24th, 2016, the MLB had some crazy action.  Here is a quick recap of the top 3 match-ups from this Sunday.

Minnesota Twins vs Washington Nationals

This marathon game between the Twins and the Nationals was very entertaining.

Tyler Duffey took the mound for the Twins and Stephen Strausburg was on the bump for the Nationals.

During the first 9 innings, some homers came off the bats of Matt den Dekker and Brian Dozier.

When the Nationals were down by 1 run in the 9th, the reigning NL MVP came up to the plate and tied the game with one swing of the bat.  This game would take another few hours to get through after that.

In the top of the 15th (Yes, you read that correctly), Miguel Sano hit a single to give the Twins a one-run lead.

In the bottom half with 2 outs, the Nationals rallied to keep the game alive.

Danny Espinosa walked and stole second to start the inning.  This would prove to be huge as John Ryan Murphy committed a throwing error on a dribbler out in front of the plate by the pitcher, Oliver Pérez.

On this error, Espinosa would score to tie the game.

In the ladder half of the 16th, Chris Heisey hit a walk-off dinger to give the Nasty Nats a win for the ages.

Los Angeles Dodgers at Colorado Rockies

This inter-division match-up between Dodgers and Rockies proved to be a thriller.

The Dodgers opened the scoring in the 2nd inning off of Jordan Lyles by putting up a 4 spot of a couple of key knocks from Yasiel Puig and Adrian Gonzalez.

Gerardo Parra hit a single off of Alex Wood in the bottom half of the 2nd to make the score 4-1.

Joc Pederson game up in the 3rd to hit a dinger and Corey Seager also hit a triple scoring another 2 runs.

The Rockies put up 3 more in the 4th to cut their deficit in half 7-4.

In the later innings, it was a hit parade for the Rockies.  Ryan Raburn, Carlos Gonzalez and Gerardo Parra all hit singles to complete the comeback and this gave them a 10-7 lead.

The top half of the 9th with 2 outs, the Dodgers completed a comeback of their own thanks to a wild pitch by Jake McGee, a single by A.J. Ellis, and a double by Corey Seager.  This would give the Dodgers a 12-10 victory.

Pittsburgh Pirates at Arizona Diamondbacks

There was another extra inning thriller this Sunday between the Pirates and the Diamondbacks.

Paul Goldschmidt started off the scoring by homering in the 1st inning off of Francisco Liriano.  Welington Castillo also hit a home run in the 3rd supplying most of the early offense for the D-backs.

The Pirates provided all of their regulation scoring in the 3rd and 4th from the likes of Jason Rogers tripling and Sean Rodriguez, Starling Marte, Gregory Polanco and Chris Stewart hitting singles off of Robbie Ray and Tyler Wagner.

Yasmany Tomas hit a big fly and Chris Owings tripled to bring the game within reach at 8-6.

Paul Goldschimdt then hit a game-tying home run in the 9th to send the game to extras.

In the 12th, David Freese and Starling Marte each drove in a run to make the score 10-8.

The resilient D-backs, however, came back to tie the game in the bottom half of the 12th with a double and single of their own by Jake Lamb and Jean Segura, respectively.

Pittsburgh then put up another 2 in the 13th which happened to be too much for the D-backs to come back from and the game ended in the Pirates favor, 12-10.
