MLB-What’s Happening?

Major league baseball is past the quarter mark and things are starting to heat up.  So let’s take a look at what’s happening in baseball today

The Comeback–  The Kansas City Royals made a remarkable comeback win v/s the Chicago White Sox by rallying to score 7 runs in the bottom of the 9th.  Not only was it a big win for the defending champs but it also knocked the White Sox from 1st to 3rd in the central division.

The great Cubs pitcher– Nope I’m not talking about Jake Arrieta.  I’m talking about Kyle Hendricks who pitched a complete game 5 hit 1 run game to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies and push the Chicago Cubs record to a staggering 33-14 record.

Payback– The New York Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndegard was ejected in the third inning of today’s game v/s the LA Dodgers for throwing a 99 mph fastball behind the head of Chase Utley.  This was in response to last year when Utley collided with Tejada at 2nd base and ended his season when Tejada suffered a broken leg.  Thus causing the MLB to create the Utley slide rule at 2nd base.

The New Streak Continues– All the talk about Jackie Bradley Jr and his hot streak that ended on Friday, but there is another Boston Player that is rolling along with a streak of his own.  Xander Boagerts extended his hit streak to 21 games when he homered against the Blue Jays in the 4th inning.

Trade Talks–  With the Padres already sending James Loney to the Mets, reports are circulating that they are looking to trade pitcher James Shields and reports have the Chicago White Sox as front-runners in the pursuit.

Club Record–  Daniel Murphy put himself in the record books for the Washington Nationals with his 41st hit in May.  The most hits in any month by a Nationals player.

Papi Not Done Yet–  Big Papi continues to make us question rather he should be retiring at the end of the season.  He went 2-5 with what was thought to be the go ahead homer in the 9th for his 40th home run at the Rogers Centre.  The Blue jays would rally back for a 10-9 win with 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th.

The Injured–  With injuries piling up across the league, on Saturday the Toronto Blue Jays placed Troy Tulowiski on the 15 day DL.  This just adds to the down season that Tulo has been going through this far.

So what looks like just a regular Saturday in the MLB, as always there are always great story lines all across the sport.
