Rodgers, Packers Head to Philadelphia to Take on Eagles

The Aaron Rodgers-led Green Bay Packers have arrived, and will take on the Eagles on Monday Night at Lincoln Financial Field.

Rodgers and the Packers present a tough test, but I actually believe they are a favorable matchup for the 5-5 Eagles.  Their defense is pedestrian, which should present an opportunity to score points, something they are not able to consistently do against top units.  We saw in the Seattle game that this offense is simply unable to outscore even average offenses when they are running against a top, physical defense.

The “Pack” are nowhere near to the complete team the Seahawks are, but they have a dangerous arsenal of weapons on offense that will stretch Jim Schwartz‘s secondary thin.

Everyone knows about the matchup issues that the physical Jordy Nelson and the shifty Randall Cobb present, but keep an eye on Jared Cook, a big tight end that coach Mike McCarthy may look to use against a smaller defense.

On offense, the team needs to manage the clock and keep Aaron Rodgers off of the field.  Running back Wendell Smallwood will get his first chance to show everyone why the team believes he could be a piece to move on moving forward.  If they are able to win the time of possession, they should have a good chance at winning this ball game.

Another story to keep an eye on is whether or not wide receiver Nelson Agholor will see the field.  His status for the game is unknown.  Agholor has acknowledged that he is dealing with mental issues due to his poor performance, and is unsure whether or not Doug Pederson will use him.

Former Eagles Linebacker Jeremiah Trotter and Hall of Fame Announcer Merrill Reese will enter the Eagles Hall of Fame in front of the Lincoln Financial Field crowd on Monday night during halftime, which can be viewed fully on the team’s livestream.

The “Ax Man” manned the middle of one of most ferocious defenses of the modern football era for the Eagles for a decade. Merrill Reese has been an institution in Philadelphia for the last 40 years and is a voice of the Eagles Nation.

Prediction: The Eagles win the time of possession battle, and Carson Wentz defeats yet another elite quarterback behind a strong defensive performance. Brandon Graham and crew get it done and get after Rodgers early and often. 27-21 Eagles.
