NASCAR, Chevrolet Announce Diversity Scholarship Contest


NASCAR and Chevrolet announced the second annual NASCAR Chevrolet Diversity Scholarship Contest at a press conference at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway today. The scholarship is an initiative to continue their longstanding support of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education.

The contest challenges students to identify an existing technology or innovation and explain how developers were able to complete it using STEM concepts in a 90 second video. The videos are submitted online at Four winners will receive a total of $20,000 in scholarships and a VIP experience at the Texas Motor Speedway during the Chase race on November 6, 2016.

The scholarship has quickly becomean important component of NASCAR’s continued commitment to improving its diversity program. The award helps attract diverse talent to the world of motorsports, as well as to both organizations.

Videos will be judged on creativity, production quality, and technical accuracy. Examples include but are not limited to: track construction, banking, race car design, SAFER barrier walls, drafting, fuel mileage, tire wear, and solar energy.

The winners will receive the scholarship and an exclusive behind the scenes tour at Texas, including a tour of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage area, pace car rides, and meet and greets with Team Chevy drivers.

To be eligible, students must be currently enrolled at least part time at an accredited college or university within the United States. Contestants must be between the ages of 18 and 25 at the time of entry and submit a YouTube link via the official website. The deadline to enter is October 15, 2016.
