NASCAR Needs To Add An Additional Road Course Race To The Schedule

Over the past several years NASCAR fans have seemingly begun to appreciate road course racing more and more. This is mainly due to the fact that not only it’s different from the racing we see 34 out of the 36 weeks of the season but also year after year it provides exciting racing that the fans can look forward to. Now there is one main factor that has led to seemingly exponentially better racing at these tracks in recent years. It is because unlike the past where many teams viewed these races as throwaways, that is no longer the case. Every top tier team looks to have a strong road course program and it shows in the competition.

With all this being said, I, along with countless fans believe that NASCAR’s top series is long overdue for an additional road course race on the schedule. In recent years NASCAR’s Xfinity Series has gone to several different road course circuits such as Road America and Mid-Ohio in which the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series has not hosted a race. When the Xfinity Series goes to these tracks there is always a massive crowd in attendance, so it is not an issue where a race at these tracks would be a hard sell. In fact, if anything there would be a shortage of tickets for people dying to see NASCAR’s top drivers hit the twists and turns of another road course. Look at Watkins Glen for example, in a time of down ticket sales in the sport in recent years it is almost a guaranteed sell out and NASCAR has been going to the track for decades now.

The fact that NASCAR has yet to look at adding another of these must-see races to the schedule is neglectful to the fans who so desperately want more. With that being said NASCAR must add another to the schedule in the next few years and it must be added to the Chase. However, if this were to not happen I would be shocked because it has been talked about for many years.
