NASCAR Silly Season Roundup 11/29-12/2

A new entitlement sponsor for NASCAR wasn’t the only news for the week. Teams and sponsors made various moves as silly season continued into Championship Week in Las Vegas. From a settled lawsuit, to teams moving up the ranks, here’s the latest news and rumors floating around the sport for this week.

HScott Motorsports, Clint Bowyer Settle Lawsuit: As previously reported earlier this week, Clint Bowyer filed a lawsuit against HScott Motorsports over 2 missed payments and sponsorship. But, the two parties have now settled the case out of court. CBR (Clint Bowyer Racing) and HScott Motorsports reached a mutual and amicable confidential settlement as to the claims for the debt owed to CBR Thursday and any other action has been dropped.

Jimmy Johns Inks Multi-Year Extension With SHR: Jimmy Johns, who sponsors Kevin Harvick’s 4 car with Stewart Hass Racing will continue their long standing relationship with him and the team with a multi-year extension. In a press release by the team Thursday, Jimmy John’s will be the primary sponsor of Harvick and the No. 4 team for 16 races in 2017 starting with the Daytona 500 in February. The sandwich shop will also serve as an associate sponsor in the remaining 22 races.

RFR Loans Chris Buescher To JTG Racing’s Second Team: After a stunning rookie season and loan spell with Front Row Motorsports in 2016, Chris Buescher and JTG Racing will both venture into new waters together in a new entry for 2017. Roush-Fenway Racing will loan the 2015 NASCAR XFINITY Series champion to the yet-to-be-numbered 2nd team next year. Details on the number and sponsorship for Buescher will be announced at a later time.

New Sponsor For Bayne: Despite a rough few weeks for Roush-Fenway Racing, there was a bright patch finally this week. New sponsorship will adorn the 6 car of Trevor Bayne in 2017 as Liberty National Life Insurance signs on for multiple races in 2017. The sponsorship will kick off during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Race at Atlanta in March.

GMS Racing Moves Up To XFINITY Series: Fresh off their maiden NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship with Johnny Sauter, GMS Racing is expanding into the NASCAR XFINITY Series in 2017 with Spencer Gallagher behind the wheel. Gallagher spent 3 seasons in the Truck Series before making his XFINITY Series debut with the team last season and continued on a limited basis. GMS Racing will run the number 23 in it’s first full season with sponsorship to be announced at a later time.

BJ McLeod Motorsports To Run Two In XFINITY Series, Possibly A Third: 2016 marked the first time that BJ McLeod Motorsports competed in a full season. But, 2017 may be an expanding year for the team depending on sponsorship and how the first few races go. “Two cars for sure full-time,” team owner/driver BJ McLeod after Homestead last month “We’re going to start a third car for the first three races and see how we maintain it.” BJM had a best finish of 19th twice last season with it’s owner/driver behind the wheel.
