NASCAR – Xfinity Series Race Recap

The NASCAR Xfinity Series roared into Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend for the third race of the season, the Boyd Gaming 300. It marked the first race of NASCAR’s annual “West Coast Swing”.

Stage 1

The race started with Kyle Busch on Pole, with Brad Keselowski along side. The first of 9 cautions fell on lap 6, for a spin by Stephen Leicht. The remainder of Stage 1 went green, and Kyle Busch would lead the entire stage, but as the lap 40 caution approached so did Kyle Larson. Larson ran down Busch from over 3 seconds behind, and ended the stage side-by-side with Busch, just .06 seconds behind.

Stage 2

Pit stops after Stage 1 saw Kyle Larson’s team get him out first. Larson ran away with the lead until a caution for Matt Tifft’s spin on Lap 72. Teams used different strategies which would shake up the field and another caution on Lap 81 would shake things up even more. In the end, Brad Keselowski came out ahead, winning Stage 2.

Final Stage

The final portion of the race saw Joey Logano out front, and he would fail to lead just 3 of the final 108 laps. There would be three more cautions in the closing laps, but on each restart Logano would stay out front. He would hold off strong charges by Kyle Larson, Kyle Busch, and Daniel Suarez to pick up his first win of the Xfinity Series season.

Notes

Top finishing Xfinity series regulars – Justin Allgaier in 4th, Darrell Wallace Jr in 6th, and Elliott Sadler in 8th.

An accident on the final lap involving Ty Dillon and William Byron failed to bring out a caution flag.

Ford has now won 2 of the first 3 races this season

Elliott Sadler remained atop the point standings, followed by Ryan Reed, William Byron, Daniel Hemric, and Darrell Wallace Jr.

The series now heads to Phoenix International Raceway for the DC Solar 200.
