NBA: Mavericks Vs. Thunder Recap

NBA: Mavericks Vs. Thunder Recap

The Mavericks and Thunder series heads back to Oklahoma City for game five of the NBA Playoffs on Monday night. Unfortunately for Dallas, it looks like this is where the series will end.

Oklahoma City suffered a loss in game two that seemed only to inspire their play for games three and four. Scoring 131 points in game three and 119 points in game four, the Thunder will try to continue their offensive onslaught in game five.

Testy, physical play by Dallas in an effort to slow the game down and limit the offensive talent of the Thunder has only led to increased energy and physical play from Oklahoma City.

Despite an expectation of more physical play in game five, Oklahoma City’s offense will look to continue clicking against the out-matched Mavericks.

The Thunder have struggled this season to find a solid, consistent third scoring option after Durant and Westbrook. After game four there appears to be a clear third option in Oklahoma City.

Eanes Kanter was the story of game four, scoring 28 points on 12-13 shooting. With crafty post moves and reliable hands, consistent play from Kanter can take the Thunder from a fringe-contender to a force that could challenge the Spurs and Warriors in the West.

Heading back home, expect a perfect Thunder performance with Westbrook and Durant scoring and play-making, Serge Ibaka, Kanter, and Dion Waiters making open shots and Steven Adams rebounding.

With an aging, veteran core, Dallas has put up all the fight they could and did an impressive job stealing one game from Oklahoma City. Game five in Oklahoma City may be the last time you see many of Dallas’s players in a Mavericks jersey as they will undoubtedly try to rebuild for the future this summer. Game five also has the chance of being the last time Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki plays in a playoff game.
