Neymar will miss El Clasico despite Barcelona’s last attempt to appeal a three-game-ban to CAS

Barcelona, Spain – Despite Barcelona’s efforts to appeal to the  Court of Arbitration (CAS), Neymar will miss El Clasico on Sunday. Just a few hours after the Catalan club announced they would appeal Neymar’s three-game-ban, the appeal did not reach CAS. That is to say, Barcelona and CAS met but without an appeal. Which means, Neymar’s ban stands and he would miss El Clasico.

Despite all this, the term to submit the appeal is still open and the Blaugranas can still submit the appeal anytime today.

Unfortunately for Neymar, the Spanish Federation’s Appeals Committee confirmed on Thursday they had rejected Barca’s initial appeal to reduce the punishment to a one-match ban.

“With the Appeal Committee dismissing FC Barcelona’s appeal for the three-match suspension of Neymar Jr, the Club will appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS),” a club statement read on Friday.

Neymar served one of the three-games after missing the win over Real Sociedad last Saturday. If the suspension is not overturned, he will miss El Clasico and Wednesday game against Osasuna.
