NFL Thanksgiving Day Preview: Redskins Versus Cowboys

Cowboys look to show dominance vs Redskins AMBASSADOR TRAVEL VIA FLICKR

Cowboys Look To Continue Their Offensive Dominance Versus Redskins

The Dallas Cowboys will host their annual Thanksgiving Day match up against a divisional foe in the Washington Redskins. These two teams will meet for the second time this season as Dallas is hoping to continue their dominance on the offensive side of the ball. The Cowboys are currently on an eight game streak in which they have accumulated at least 400 total yards on offense.

The Redskins are entering Dallas with a 6-3-1 record after they blasted the Packers last Sunday. Kirk Cousins is playing like a true franchise quarterback and has the Redskins right on the Cowboys’ heels for the division lead. What has helped propel the Washington offense has been the emergence in the running game. Rob Kelley has provided Washington with a balanced attack on offense as he’s been very efficient on the ground.

This spark in the running game has provided the Redskins with a solid and effective multi-dimensional offense. Cousins has lethal offensive weapons to spread the ball around to. Jordan Reed, Piere Garcon, DeSean Jackson, and Jamison Crowder are elite receiving threats down the field. They will likely test the Dallas secondary early on in this match up to start the game quickly. Dallas must prepare for the no huddle and fast paced offense.

Washington might have the edge defensively in this contest. Josh Norman has shown his dominance at the corner position most of this season. Norman faced Cowboys‘ star wide out, Dez Bryant last Thanksgiving as a member of the Panthers and did a great job covering Bryant. I would expect the same in this game. Norman is a guy who they can move around to keep up with Bryant wherever he is on the field. Dallas will be tested in the passing game early in this one.

The Cowboys are in the midst of a nine game winning streak and they are playing well in every phase of the game. The offense is on the verge of an NFL record if they can continue their dominance and efficiency on that side of the ball. If Dallas can rack up another 400 yard performance they would break an NFL record with nine straight games of achieving that feat. The Redskins have been in a few shootouts so this one could get up there in points.

Ezekiel Elliott and Dak Prescott are both in the conversation for NFL MVP and offensive rookie of the year. They are perfect compliments to each other in how they blend and play together. Prescott and Elliott lead the Cowboys‘ high octane offense and they will look to defeat the Redskins for the second time this season.

Dallas will need to establish a strong running game early to get some one on one coverages for the Dallas receivers. Prescott has been able to make some plays in the passing game and get his guys involved, but that only comes after the run was established. Prescott and the Cowboys offense struggled early last week against the Ravens and the clear reason was the lack of a rushing attack. Elliott only gained 26 yards on the ground in the first half last week. If the Cowboys are going to win this game, Elliott must have a successful day on the ground.

The Cowboys have the ability to impose their will on defenses with the dominance of their offensive line. They have been the constant factor in every game that has made the difference. They protect Prescott and give Elliott lanes to run through all game long. With that consistency, they should be able to come away with a win on turkey day. They Cowboys and Redskins will play on Thanksgiving day at 4:30 ET.
