Cowboys will need strong focus vs Giants VERNON HADNOT VIA FLICKR

Cowboys Need Strong Focus To Win In New York

The Dallas Cowboys are 11-1 so far through the 2016 season. The only loss they have suffered came way back on week one against guess who? Yes, the New York Giants. That was Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott’s first career NFL game. Since then the Dallas rookies have led America’s team to the league’s best record as they have a chance to clinch the NFC East division and possibly the number one seed in the NFC. All the focus will be on the offenses in this match up.

Week one of the regular season was obviously a mystery going in. No one knew what to expect from Prescott. He ended up throwing 45 times for only 227 yards. He has improved tremendously since then and will focus on getting his play makers involved. Dez Bryant was held to just one catch off of only five targets. That will surely change as Prescott and Bryant have recently established a solid connection in the passing game.

Ezekiel Elliott was expected to make an immediate impact as everyone in the building knew the Cowboys were going to run the ball often. Elliott managed just 2.5 yards a carry week one, however he did find the end zone. Elliott will likely see more carries this week in the cold New York weather and should have a better outing. Elliott will need to focus on his blocking ability as the Giants have a strong pass rush.

Typically in the NFL, the team that contains the stronger rushing attack fairs better in cold weather. That plays a key role in the match up since the Giants have struggled to run the ball all season. The Cowboys have been crushing opponents with their running ability and that is a huge confidence booster on the road. If Dallas can establish the run with Elliott, they can hold the ball longer and keep it away from Eli Manning.

Manning and the Giants have a dangerous passing attack. Odell Beckham Jr, Victor Cruz, and their rookie receiver Sterling Shepard are quite the trio. Each one of those guys can burn you deep or catch balls over the middle consistently. The Dallas secondary will have focus on the deep ball and contain Beckham from making big plays.

The Cowboys and Giants both have a lot riding on the line for this game. The Giants are still in pursuit of a playoff spot and a possible division title. The Cowboys can closeout the division with a win. Week one was a bit sloppy for both sides, but at this point in the season they have established their identities. The final score of their initial meeting this season was 20-19 in favor of the Giants. This game should see a rise in the scoring category as the passing games for Dallas and New York are both very lethal.

The Cowboys and Giants will play on Sunday Night Football at 8:30 p.m. ET.
