Chicago Blackhawks:6  Arizona Coyotes:2

The Chicago Blackhawks, coming off a 6-4 win over the Boston Bruins Sunday afternoon, cruised to a 6-2 victory over the Arizona Coyotes, who lost to the St. Louis Blues last night. The Hawks, who scored 6 goals for the second straight night, recieved goals by Richard Panik, Jonathan Toews, Andrew Desjardins, Patrick Kane, and 2 goals by Andrew Ladd. Goaltender Scott Darling stopped 29 of 31 shots in his 10th straight start. Brad Richardson and Connor Murphy scored for the Coyotes, while Louis Domingue struggled in goal, giving up 6 goals on 32 shots.

Just over 5 minutes into the first period, Richard Panik put the Blackhawks up 1-0. Panik was able to grab a rebound from a Toews shot off the pad of Domingue, and lift it over the blocker and into the net. Toews and defenceman Niklas Hjalmarsson each received an assist on the goal.

Toews would score his own goal, his 27th of the season, just 7 minutes after, making it a 2-0 game. While shorthanded, Toews stole the puck from rookie forward Max Domi, skated into the zone on a breakaway, and fired it past Domingue for the shorthanded goal.

The NHL points leader Patrick Kane would score 6 minutes into the second, extending the lead to 3. On the power play, defenceman would pass the puck up to rookie forward Artemi Panarin, who tossed the puck to Kane. Kane fired a wrist shot once again over the blocker of Domingue. It was Kane’s 44th goal of the season.

While skating into the zone midway through the second, Blackhawks center Artem Anisimov was hit from behind by Antione Vermette. Anisimov went head first into the boards and struggled to get up. He would leave the game after the hit and is listed with an upper body injury. Vermette would also leave the game, receiving a 5 minute boarding penalty and game misconduct. There has been no word on whether the NHL department of player safety will suspend Vermette for the play, but because he received the game misconduct, he will automatically be suspended for the teams next game, unless the NHL decides the play did not warrant a game misconduct.

On the 5 minute powerplay following the Vermette hit, Blackhawks forward Andrew Ladd scored 2 goals. The first was on a tip in off of a Trevor Van Riemsdyk shot for the hawks 4th goal. Ladd struck again just two minutes later, this time on a wrist shot right in front of the net. Andrew Desjardins scored midway through the third period, scoring the Hawks 6th goal of the game.

The Coyotes would strike twice in the third, first on a wrist shot by Connor Murphy. Murphy received the puck from Jiri Sekac off a Blackhawks turnover, and just fired the puck from the blue line, beating Scott Darling on the blocker side. Richardson would get the second goal for the Coyotes, grabbing the rebound of a Shane Doan shot and firing the puck top shelf past Darling.
