OneMain Financial Leaving JR Motorsports, NASCAR At End Of Season

After a five year association with NASCAR XFINITY Series driver Elliott Sadler, OneMain Financial is pulling out of NASCAR at the end of the 2016 season. Springleaf Holdings, who bought the bank from CitiCorp last year chose not to renew relations in a effort to market in other areas and ways.

OneMain Financial has sponsored the 16 year Sprint Cup Series veteran in the XFINITY Series after losing his full time cup series with Richard Petty Motorsports after the 2010 season. They have sponsored him with several elite teams in the series, including Richard Childress Racing and Joe Gibbs Racing.

But, the way Elliott got word was in strange in timing. The night before the July 1 race at Daytona International Speedway, Sadler received a call that his longtime primary sponsor OneMain wouldn’t return for 2017. This came despite already locking himself in the 2016 Chase in the XFINITY Series thanks to a win at Talladega in May and 13 top 10’s this year.

“I think they want to go in a different direction than what racing is,” Sadler said Tuesday. “They didn’t share a lot with me other than that part of it. The future is 100 percent uncertain with all this happening, but if I could get a blank sheet of paper and write down a wish list, it’d be to still race with JR Motorsports moving forward.”

Sadler said. In a statement, JR Motorsports co-owner Kelley Earnhardt Miller said the team wants to maintain three Chevys again next season. JRM also fields the #7 for Justin Allgaier and a #88 that is split between several drivers.
