Patrik Laine returns to struggling Jets’ lineup

It’s no secret the Winnipeg Jets have found major difficulty in finding a good rhythm this season. It did not help playing without star rookie, Patrik Laine.

Laine was sidelined with a concussion after taking a devastating open-ice check from Buffalo Sabres’ Jake McCabe. He has been out of the lineup for eight games, of which the Jets have gone 4-3-1. The team went a steady 4-4 with him prior to the injury.

The Jets have struggled to find the back of the net and have also had troubles with keeping the puck out of their net. The issue with the Jets’ goaltending has been made clear time and time again this season. Without a good backing, offense seems to have little effect.

Laine, now healthy, sits at 21 goals in 42 games played, just a goal shy of current rookie goal leader Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He also sits third in points with 37, just barely behind the Leafs rookie duo of Matthews and Mitch Marner for the top rookie spot. The season has passed the midway point, so look for this rookie race to heat up.

Laine returned Tuesday night in a game against the San Jose Sharks. He would record an assist as the Jets fell short, losing 4-3 to the Sharks. Laine is currently set to star in the All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles, which is set to begin this Saturday.
