No. 1 Defenseman to miss “a couple of weeks” with Injury

PITTSBURGH-In the midst of a seven-game winning streak, the Pittsburgh Penguins are looking like a team that could repeat as Stanley Cup champions this season. They learned today, though, that they will have to get through the next few weeks without their top defenseman, Kris Letang.

Letang will miss the next couple of weeks with a lower-body injury, according to Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan.

The 29-year-old played in Pittsburgh’s game last night against the Boston Bruins, a 4-3 win overtime win by the Penguins. He led Pittsburgh in ice time during the game with 26:23 played.

Not much information has been given out by team in regards to Letang’s injury apart from the time he’ll be out, so it’s hard to figure out if this was an issue he was already having or if he sustained the injury during the game against Boston.

Letang has played in 25 games so far this season and currently leads the Penguins defense in scoring with 19 points (two goals, 17 assists), which also has him fourth in scoring on the team.
