Quarterback Sam Bradford Traded To The Minnesota Vikings

The Eagles announced that they have traded quarterback Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings for a 2017 1st round pick and a 2018 4th round pick.  The Vikings will also be responsible for $7 million of Bradford‘s salary for 2016, with the Eagles paying the remaining $11 million.

With Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater suffering a severe knee injury that included a tibiofemoral dislocation and ACL rupture, they were in need of a quarterback.  Being a 2016 playoff team, the Vikings obviously believe they have what it takes to win, and did not have trust in current backup Shaun Hill.

They met the Eagles steep asking price and agreed to terms to acquire the former Heisman winner.  The Vikings will be the most skilled team that Bradford has ever played with, and he will get a chance to make his case to other teams to sign him to a long term deal following the return of Bridgewater.

It was reported that the Eagles were attempting to trade Bradford to the Denver Broncos after they lost quarterback Brock Osweiler to the Houston Texans in free agency.  General Managers Howie Roseman and John Elway were unable to agree to terms, with Elway implying that the Eagles were unrealistic compensation for an oft-injured player.

Bradford enjoyed a pedestrian 2015 season, posting a 3725/19/14 stat line, while completing 65% of his passes.  During the 2016 preseason Bradford has thrown for 282 yards with two touchdowns and one interception on 39 attempts in two games.

It appears that the Eagles are comfortable with starting Carson Wentz, who they drafted with the second pick in the 2016 draft for their Week 1 match against the Cleveland Browns.  Many thought Chase Daniel, who the Eagles signed for $7 million in free agency would be the starter, but Daniel has had a less-than-stellar preseason, and was brought in to essentially help teach the offense, not to play many games.

The Eagles and Vikings will face each other during Week 7 of the 2016 season.  They’re set to play at 1:00pm EST in Philadelphia.  Could this be a Bradford vs. Wentz matchup?
