Riley Pint Drafted by the Rockies

Riley Pint out of St. Thomas Aquinas High School has been selected 4th overall by the

The 6 foot 4 inch right-hander was an All-American and was selected to the 2016 Rawlings-Perfect Game 1st Team. If Pint does not sign to play major league baseball, he has committed to LSU.

Many scouts say that the biggest strength in Pint is his fastball. He has been clocked at 102 on the gun but is more around the 94-99 range. Along with the speed of his fastball, he can also add movement to it.

Riley needs to work on his breaking pitches more before becoming big league ready.

He has a changeup that needs work and a power curve. The power curve almost looks like a slider according to most scouts. In addition to these, it has been rumored that Pint is working on a more traditional curveball.

If anything would keep Pint from reaching his full potential, it would be his mechanics. Pint has a hard time repeating his delivery time after time. This could be due to the fact that Pint has not had many innings. While in high school, he also played first and third base.

As he figures himself out, hopefully he will find a delivery that works and that will not cause injury to his shoulder.

If he cannot cut it as a professional pitcher, fans may see him switch to a first or third baseman. With the ability to hit 100 MPH on the radar gun, many scouts expect Pint to be a solid major leaguer one day.
