Roberto di Matteo sacked by Aston Villa

Aston Villa, United Kingdom – After picking  up just one Championship win this season, Aston Villa has sacked Roberto di Matteo, the club confirmed.

“Aston Villa Football Club has today parted company with manager Roberto Di Matteo.

The Club decided to act following a run of disappointing results which has the left the team occupying 19th position in the Championship.”

Former Chelsea manager was appointed shortly after Chinese businessman Tony Xia took over on June 2.

Villa will now start looking for their fifth manager in one year.

Di Matteo’s assistant Steve Clarke will take over as caretaker manager.

Di Matteo, whose major success as a manager was winning the Champions League with Chelsea in 2012, also enjoyed success at Championship level when he won promotion with Albion in 2010.

Steve Bruce has emerged as an early front-runner for the job.
