Ryan Reed Wins PowerShares QQQ 300 at Daytona

Ryan Reed survived and outlasted 39 others Saturday afternoon to win the PowerShares QQQ 300 at Daytona. It was his second win in the Daytona 500 prelim race in the last 3 years. Kasey Kahne finished second, followed by Austin Dillon, Keselowski, and Gaughan to complete the top 5.

The win did not come easy for Ryan though, as did the race in general. 10 cautions slowed the race down to a craw and even stopping it at times. Two big wrecks alone in the first stage collected over half of the field combined.

The first big one happened on lap 23, where 23 cars were involved. Big names like Cole Custer, William Byron, Dillon, and eventual winner Ryan Reed were involved. The race was halted for over 18 minutes for cleanup. The second one happened just at the end of the 1st stage, involving 12 plus cars in turns 3 & 4. Reed again was involved, along with Erik Jones and Daniel Suarez to name a few. The race was once again halted for 27 minutes. .

The action settled down after those two, with JR Motorsport’s Elliott Sadler and Kasey Kahne taking charge. But, Sadler and several others once again were swept in the third and final big one with 16 to go. Up to that point, he had led 40 laps and was the winner of the first and second stages.

From there, Kahne and Ryan Reed dueled for the lead and win in the closing stages. They swapped the lead numerous times before Reed took it for good on lap 122. His other career win came at the exact track and race just two years earlier. “I’ve had so many people tell me how amazing that first win was. That win drove me to get back to victory lane.” Reed told Fox Sports 1 after the race.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series races again next Saturday at Atlanta for the Rinnai 250.
