Sadio Mane: Liverpool Forward Ruled Out For Rest Of Season

Liverpool, England – Liverpool’s Senegalese forward Sadio Mane is set to miss the last seven games of the Premier League season through a knee injury. Liverpool substituted the 24-year-old after he collided with England international Leighton Baines against Everton. The Reds won the Merseyside derby 3-1 but that victory appears to have come with a cost.

What Impact Has Sadio Mane Had At Liverpool?

When Jurgen klopp bought Sadio Mane from Southampton for £34 million last summer some thought they had over-payed. Since then however the forward has proven to be a key part of Liverpool’s top four challenge. He has stared in Klopp’s favored front three alongside Roberto Firmino and Phillipe Coutinho.

The tactical flexibility of the front three has allowed Mane the freedom to roam in dangerous areas in the attacking third. Mane has proved a constant threat to opposition defenses with his pace and movement adding another dimension to Liverpool’s attacking play. He has scored 13 goals and provided 5 assists in his debut season at Anfield making him a key part of their strongest staring 11.

How Big A Loss Will Sadio Mane Be For Liverpool?

This injury will not be the first time that Mane will be unavailable for Liverpool this season. He missed five games in January whilst away with Senegal at the African Cup Of Nations. Klopp’s side failed to win in any of those five fixtures with two defeats and three draws in that run. The loss of his pace and power meant they found it more difficult to break teams down and they scored just four goals in his absence.

In comparison in the 26 matches Sadio Mane has been available for this season the Reds have scored 60 goals. They have also won 17 games and lost just three. It is clear then that Mane’s injury will have a big impact on Liverpool’s pursuit of Champions League qualification. However Liverpool still have a six point cushion over 5th placed Arsenal. They will hope that they can perform better without Mane this time.
