France Defender Samuel Umtiti will be out for three weeks with an injury

Madrid, Spain – Barcelona and France defender Samuel Umtiti will be out of action for at least three weeks with a rupture to the femoral biceps muscle of his left thigh, the club confirmed.

First team player Samuel Umtiti has a rupture to the femoral biceps muscle of his left thigh. This was determined following tests carried out on Thursday. The injury is expected to keep him out for approximately three weeks,” read the statement made by the Catalan club.

The 22-year-old sustained the problem during a practice match in training on Wednesday ahead of Friday’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier with Sweden. Eliaquim Mangala has been called up to replace Umtiti in Frances squad.

Umtiti has excelled more than expected in his first year in Barcelona as he brings dynamic and sureness to the defensive line.

For manager Luis Enrique the panoramic is looking gray with Gerard Pique and Jeremy Mathieu lingering injuries, added the under-performance shown by Javier Mascherano this season. .
