Scot McCloughan could ‘feel the hate’ from Bruce Allen

Former NFL running back Michael Robinson revealed the latest bombshell in the Bruce Allen and Scot McCloughan drama. Appearing on “The Wes McElroy Show” via Fox Sports 910, Robinson spoke about a recent phone call he had with the aforementioned McCloughan.

“He knew the players loved him, and he started feeling the hate from Bruce Allen right around, well, he’s been feeling it, but when they didn’t let him speak at the Senior Bowl, he said to him that was his last straw, and he knew that he was on his way out. “He said it was after a draft meeting, after the Combine, Bruce called him up to his office and was just like, ‘Nobody likes you in this building. Nobody wants you here.’ And Scot was like, well, I guess I’m out of here.”

In an interview with ESPN earlier in the week, Bruce Allen felt the team needed ‘clarity’ from the drama. There was speculation of a power struggle earlier in the off-season, but Allen denied those claims. However, Bruce Allen also declined to say exactly why Scot McCloughan was fired.

“I’ve heard all this different speculation,” Allen said. “That’s ridiculous. Scot and I have had conversations [before the firing]. We’re on the same page. There’s a personal side in that I brought him to the Redskins and hoped for, obviously, not just a different outcome but a better situation for him and for the Redskins. Yeah, that hurts. I do wish him the best. I like Scot. It feels like our friendship obviously will be strained.”

After firing Scot McCloughan the pressure should now be on Bruce Allen to find a competent replacement. Within two seasons, McCloughan received the bulk of the credit for the Redskins turnaround. As a result, the Redskins next hire will definitely have big shoes to fill.
