Center-back Sebastian De Maio has signed with Fiorentina

Florence, Italy – Fiorentina have completed the signing of center-back Sebastian De Maio from Anderlecht, as officially confirmed by the club.

“Fiorentina communicate the signing, on a temporary basis with a right to buy, of the footballer Sebastian De Maio from RSC Anderlecht,” reads an official statement on the club’s site.

“De Maio, who was born in Saint-Denis on March 5, 1987, also played for Brescia, Frosinone and Genoa, collecting 94 games and four goals in Serie A.”

The 29-year-old joins Fiorentina from Anderlecht, a team he joined in July after leaving Genoa after three seasons.

Fiorentina, fifth in Serie A last season, kick off their season at champions Juventus on Saturday.

Belgian media quoted De Maio’s agent as saying that he was leaving Anderlecht for family reasons and denied he had problems settling in at the club.

De Maio also released his first few statements as a Viola player.

“The 90-year anniversary is a highly significant event for Florence, but also for me, because my opportunity with Fiorentina is very important,” De Maio told the local Press.

“The Italian championship is among the most difficult in Europe, but Fiorentina are still a great team.

“I always admired them in the past, and now I’m proud to be one of their players.”
