Real Madrid Captain Sergio Ramos has been ruled out against Sevilla

Madrid, Spain – Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos will miss his side’s next two games. The defender will not begin the year in action due to a problem he picked up at the Club World Cup.

Speaking at a club event at the Bernabeu on Monday, the defender confirmed his absence for Los Blancos’ last-16 first leg against Sevilla.

Ramos has been hit by a number of injuries during the opening part of the campaign. The Spain international missed the Club World Cup semi-final victory over Club America last month, but was able to help his side by playing the whole game during the 4-2 final win over Kashima Antlers on 18 December.

“Real Madrid completed their first training session of the year as they continued to prepare for the first leg of the Copa del Rey round of 16 match, which sees the Whites take on Sevilla on Wednesday at the Santiago Bernabeu. Ball work at high intensity was the main focus of the session, which also saw Sergio Ramos out running alone on the pitch,” Los Blancos confirmed through the club’s official website.

Nacho is expected to deputise for Ramos at the heart of Zinedine Zidane’s defence as they look to begin 2017 in winning fashion.

Ramos could also be rested for the league meeting with Granada on Saturday but it is hoped he wil be fit for the second leg against Sevilla on January 12.
