In what is expected to be one of the best series of the playoffs, the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks did not disappoint fans in game 1, scoring a combined 7 goals. Sharks captain Joe Pavelski scored 2 goals, including the game winner, while Kings forward Milan Lucic racked up 2 assists in the loss.

The Kings would start the scoring in the first, with Jake Muzzin scoring the first goal of the series. Tanner Pearson took the puck off the boards, passing it to Lucic, who tossed it across to Muzzin. Muzzin pulled goaltender Martin Jones out of the net, and banked it off the group in front of the net and into the goal. But on the power play, the Sharks would tie it up. Brent Burns would find Pavelski, who fired the puck past Jonathan Quick, tying the game at 1.

In the second, the Sharks would take the lead on a goal from Burns. After Joel Ward won the faceoff back to Burns, who took a slap shot, putting it past Quick. But that lead wouldn’t last long, as just 40 seconds later, Jeff Carter would tie the game at 2. Carter skated the puck in to the zone, then tried to pass the puck to Lucic in front of the net, but instead banked it off of a Sharks defender and into the net. Later in the period, Trevor Lewis skated into the zone, making a move around Burns and, while falling, fired the puck into the net, making it 3-2 Kings. But, shockingly, the Sharks would tie it just 30 seconds later. After Joel Ward took a shot, Tomas Hertl grabbed the rebound and put it past Quick.

Just 17 seconds into the third, the Sharks would take the lead. After Pavelski won the faceoff back to defenseman Justin Braun, he passed it back to Pavelski, who skated behind the net before wrapping it around the net and putting it past the glove of Quick, making it 4-3. Despite a last minute surge of offense from the Kings, they couldn’t get the puck past  Jones, and the Sharks pulled out the victory.
