Strasburg Gearing Toward Return

The MLB postseason is right around the corner and teams are making their final moves to give them best success come October. One of those teams looking to make a long run this postseason is the Washington Nationals. They currently are up 10.5 games in the NL East. Despite holding such a large lead their starting pitching hasn’t been as strong with the absence of Stephen Strasburg.

Strasburg last pitched August 17th. In that game, he gave up 9 runs (all earned) over 1.2 innings. The Washington Nationals put him on the 15-day DL afterwards. They were proactive when it came to him with his history of injuries.

Besides Max Scherzer and Tanner Roark, the back end of the rotation doesn’t look strong enough for the final playoff push.

Friday afternoon, Strasburg threw a successful bullpen session. He felt “good” and the Nationals are prepping for his return in the next couple of weeks.

Dusty Baker had a few words to say to the media afterward:

“So it just depends on how he feels. We’ve still got some time. We’ve still got quite a bit of time actually. If he does come back, and when, it’ll be like getting a fresh body and fresh arm back.”

Stephen Strasburg is 15-4 with a 3.59 ERA and 179 strikeouts this season. He is set to throw one more bullpen session in a couple of days and from that depending on how he feels, he will be back with the Washington Nationals.
