Strasburg Headed to DL Again

Strasburg headed to Disabled List again.

In the past week the Washington Nationals have had their share of frustrations.  They faced their longest losing streak of the season at 7 games and now more bad news.

Strasburg Out

On Sunday the Nationals placed Stephen Strasburg on the 15 day DL with an upper back strain.  We found out that the cause of the back strain was due to a weight lifting mishap. Strasburg had two ribs pop out of place during a work out which caused the back strain.

“It was some kind of a freak thing that must have went on in the weight room” Strasburg said “I really don’t know why. It kinda threw everything out of sync.”

The National’s Ace is off to the best start of his career.  He is now 10-0 with a 2.90 ERA and 118 strikeouts in just 93 innings pitched.

Nothing new for Nat’s

Strasburg missed almost all of 2011 after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He came back in 2012 and was shut down in the middle of a pennant race for precautionary measures. He was unable to pitch in the Nationals’ first-ever postseason appearance. He’s made three separate trips to the DL over the past three years (lat, neck, oblique). The Nationals have had only one season (2014) where Strasburg didn’t miss a start.

Should the Nationals be worried?

Throughout baseball there are of course many players that have seen the DL multiple times.  The problem is that This pitcher is one of the only ones that has a contract worth 175 million dollars.

The Nationals don’t expect him to miss much time with this injury.  He has already missed 2 starts and his DL stint is retroactive to June 16th.  This means that barring any setbacks we can expect to see Him back sometime this weekend.

With the Nationals currently struggling, his return can’t come soon enough.
