P.K. Subban Has Been Traded to the Nashville Predators for Shea Weber

In what will go down as possibly the biggest and most shocking trades of the offseason, the Montreal Canadians have traded star defenseman P.K. Subban to the Nashville Predators in exchange for their captain, defenseman Shea Weber.

Subban, 27, is one of the leagues top blueliners. Drafted in the 2nd round of the 2007 NHL draft, Subban became known as one of the toughest and best two way defenseman in the league. He won the Norris Trophy as the leagues top defenseman in 2013, and signed a 8 year contract with Canadians the following offseason. Subban was named as an alternate captain for the Canadians this past season when they decided to go with 3 alternate captains and no captain. Many feel Subban should have gotten the role as captain, as he is known for his hard work on and off the ice.

Weber, who has been captain of the Predators since 2010, is considered a top 5 defesneman in the league. He established himself as one of the best in the league right away, finishing 5th in Norris voting in just his third season. He is known for his physical play and hard shot, as well as his leadership, which earned him the Mark Messier leadership award this past season.

For Nashville, they add a defenseman who is younger than Weber by almost 4 years. He is more of a puck mover and a better offensive defenseman than Weber, which fits the playing style the Predators play. While he has a large cap hit, $9 million until 2021, but he should still be playing at a high level when that contract is up.

The Canadians add a veteran defenseman in Weber, who will likely be given the captain role in Montreal. He is dominant on the defenseive end, which will help the Canadians who struggled to keep the puck out of the net in the absence of goaltender Carey Price.
