The Resurgence of Kevin Love (Part 1)

Kevin Love (Part 1)

Trade him! He doesn’t gel with the team! He was just a good player on a bad team! Those are just a few of the things that have been said about Kevin Love since he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers just two summers ago. Even after winning the NBA Championship there had been rumors of being traded for guys like Carmelo Anthony and Demarcus Cousins.  Hopefully after the first 24 games of the season Love and his play has put those talks to bed.

Everyone is now starting to see the 2011 version of Kevin Love when he had a streak of 53 straight games with a double double setting an NBA record. Ironically the streak was ended by Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors. The same Warrior team that had a 3-1 lead and blew it against Love and the Cavaliers, making the comeback victory just a little sweeter. Okay, maybe it wasn’t the same Warriors team from 2011 and maybe, well probably, the thought of his double double streak wasn’t on his mind after winning the Championship. But it’s still fun to remind Warriors fans they blew a 3-1 lead isn’t it?

But back to the discussion at hand, Kevin’s hot start. Love is averaging his usual double double again recording just a smidge above 22 points along with 11 rebounds.  These stats don’t fall too far from his career best season in 2013 when he was in Minnesota, where he averaged 26 points and 12 rebounds per game. You could argue that he is actually having a better year this year than the 2013 year. His points were higher in 2013 because he was taking 3 more shots a game than he is this year and I’m not even going to talk about the rebounds because standing next to him he has one of the best rebounders in the game in Tristan Thompson but is still managing those 11 rebounds a game.

I haven’t even gotten into the meat and potatoes as to why Love is having a career year and the Cavaliers have made the right choice in keeping Kevin around for a while.

So stay tuned for part 2.
