Title Sponsor Of Eldora Truck Race Announced

Like many race car drivers, most baseball players have never had any qualms about dirt. Major League Baseball as an organization, however, seems to have a big issue with dirt, particularly the name that has been used for an event held in the dirt that makes up Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.

The July 20th NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race will now be officially named The Aspen Dental Eldora Dirt Derby. Aspen Dental is currently one of the primary sponsors on Danica Patrick’s number 10 Sprint Cup Chevrolet. Tony Stewart co-owns the team Patrick drives for in addition to owning Eldora Speedway.

For the past 3 years, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Eldora has been known as the 1-800-CarCash Mudsummer Classic. The race is the only event in a major NASCAR touring series to be held on dirt in over 40 years. However, the title’s resemblance to the Midsummer Classic, the MLB All-Star Game, was too much to overlook for baseball’s top brass, who insisted the name be changed.

The race consists of 3 segments consisting of 40, 50, and 60 laps. The field is set by 5 qualifying races immediately prior to the 150 lap main event. Austin Dillon, Darrell Wallace Jr and Christopher Bell are the previous winners of the race.
