TSJ101 Training Camp Edition: Baltimore Ravens Notes And Observations

Baltimore Ravens NFL

The Baltimore Ravens held practices at M&T Bank Stadium this past Saturday in front of the hometown fans. This was the second of two practices held at the stadium within the past week.

Players on PUP List: OLB Terrell Suggs (Achilles), WR Breshad Perriman (knee), WR Steve Smith (Achilles), OLB Elvis Dumervil (lower leg), and RB Lorenzo Taliaferro (foot)

Camp Injury Report: TE Dennis Pitta (finger sprain), Crockett Gillmore (leg), DT Timmy Jernigan (chest), WR Chris Moore (undisclosed), CB Maurice Canady (undisclosed)

Left tackle Ronnie Stanley left practice yesterday with what head coach John Harbaugh described as a soft tissue injury. “I’m not concerned,” Stanley said after practice. “Minor setback. It’s nothing major.”

Ironically, wide receiver Chris Matthews, also left practice with a soft tissue injury. However, the team fears his injury may be the worse of the two. Injuries are beginning to mount up for the Ravens receiving core. Michael

Kicker Justin Tucker hit a 75 yard field goal at yesterday’s practice. He caught the attention of a fellow peer when he insisted he could make a 84 yard field goal in Denver, this week.

Broncos kicker Brandon McManus waged a war of words with Tucker and offered the Ravens kicker an “all expense trip” to a place of his choosing if he did.

Running back Terrance West took a few reps with the first team offense. He’s been one that’s making the most of reps and opportunities. West, is a native of Baltimore, so the motivation to perform in front of his hometown fans is paying off. West ripped off a big gainer yesterday, hitting holes with authority.

Joe Flacco made his way out to practice to the approval of the fans. It’s kind of hard to gauge how fully recovered he is from his torn ACL because of limitations in a practice setting but he did move well on what appeared to be a designed bootleg keeper during 11 on 11’s. Considering the fact that his knee is in a big bulky brace.

He connected with receiver Kamar Aiken on a 50 yard pass, for what was the biggest play for the offense on the day. On a pass that Flacco exhibited the arm strength that he is known for. However, he was intercepted twice.

The first came on a under-thrown pass. CB Shareece Wright, snagged what would have been a pick-six. Free agent acquisition Eric Weddle looked extremely fluent in individual drills, and also intercepted quarterback Joe Flacco in 11 on 11’s.

Baltimore opened its preseason slate Thursday when they played host to the defending NFC champion Carolina Panthers.
