Video: Hope Solo Rants Out on U.S. Soccer After Being Handed Suspension

An Emotional Hope Solo launches a furious rant after being handed suspension

Seattle, Washington – U.S. Women’s National Team goalkeeper Hope Solo was suspended by U.S. Soccer on August 24 and had her contract terminated with immediate effect after calling Sweden’s national team “cowards” following their quarterfinal win over the USWNT at Rio 2016.

In a video clip released today by the makers of Keeping Score, a documentary series that trailed several USWNT players before during and after the Olympics, you can see the exact moment that Solo learns that she has been suspended and her contract terminated, effectively ending her time with the USWNT. The notification came from USWNT manager Jill Ellis and Dan Flynn of U.S. Soccer.

“Six month suspension, no pay, terminated contract effective immediately,” says Solo as she hugs her husband, former NFL tight end Jerramy Stevens. “Terminated contract. Not just a suspension.”

“17 f***ing years and it’s over!” she shouts through tears.
