The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Florida Panthers 4-3 in a game that required overtime on Wednesday night.

The Oilers took a 2-0 lead with goals from Zack Kassian and Mark Letestu, both of which were assisted by Connor McDavid.

Vincent Trocheck would make it 2-1 with just minutes left in the first period. The Panthers would score the only goal in the second period off the stick of Michael Sgarbossa, tying it at two.

In the third period, the Oilers would fall behind 3-2 with a goal from Greg McKegg. But, in the last few minutes of the game, the Oilers’ Jordan Eberle would tie the game.

The game would go into overtime and in the dying seconds, McDavid was sent on a break-away and he would beat Panthers’ goaltender, James Reimer. The goal would go under review due to how Reimer thought he had caught it and kept it from going over the goal-line.

However, the review showed that it did indeed cross the line while in the glove of Reimer, so the call on the ice was confirmed. The Oilers beat the Panthers 4-3 in overtime.

A few stories would come from this game, stories ranging from horrid ice conditions and that Eberle’s goal was his first in 19 games.

However, the biggest story out of the game last night was McDavid. McDavid reached a career milestone last night, tallying his 100th career point. He finished the night tallying his 102nd career point with his overtime goal.

McDavid is among elite company as only Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin are the only active players that have reached the milestone sooner. Keep in mind, McDavid missed a large chunk of last season. He more than likely would have got to this milestone a lot sooner had he been healthy all through last season.

Up next for the two teams; The Oilers will host the Nashville Predators on Friday and the Panthers will play in Vancouver on Friday.
