Werth Extends Streak to 42

In the sixth inning of Saturdays game versus the Braves, Jayson Werth of the Washington Nationals reached base safely in his 42nd straight game.  With the single in the sixth inning he is now just one off the team record, set by Ryan Zimmerman in 2009.

Werth has been able to get a hit or walk in every game since June 20.  This is longest such streak of Werth’s career and the longest of anyone in the Majors this season.  With the single off of Reliever Jason Hursh, Werth finds himself halfway to Hall of Famer Ted Williams record of 84 that he set in 1949.  Werth is also just 18 away from the National league on-base streak held by George Van Haltron who accomplished the feat in 1893 for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

On Sunday the Nationals face the Braves again and Werth will have a chance to tie the franchise record and see if he can pursue the next record.
