Why We Should All Be Tired of the LeBron vs Jordan Debate

It never fails that at least once a week I get on Twitter and find a poll running or debate going about who is the G.O.A.T.  Obviously by the title of this article you can figure out that it is the never-ending debate between Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

When is the madness going to stop?

When are we going to end it all and just move on with our lives?

Well, my guess would be never.  However, I hope you will hear me out on why we should all be absolutely, without a doubt sick and tired of hearing it.

Now before I go any further I want you to understand that I am not only writing this to help you stop with this debate, but to also remind myself to avoid this trap debate in which there is never a winner.  I can’t even tell you how many times I have taken part in this mindless debate actually believing that if I make enough good points the other side is going to agree with me.  I sit there spouting out stat after stat and discussing the different eras of the NBA.  I go through the usual discussion of how one is a better team player than the other or how one of them was more ruthless than the other.  In the end of each and every argument I walk away thinking that the other side of this argument is just a bunch of fools that don’t understand basketball like I do.

I end up getting drug into the “well LeBron isn’t finished yet” or the “what if Jordan hadn’t sat out two years to play baseball”.  I have even heard the argument that LeBron couldn’t have played baseball though and Jordan did.  Yeah, I know, that last one is down right ridiculous, but it’s true I have seen it used.  Basically the point I am trying to make is why do we continue to have this debate?  It’s not a winnable debate because it is all based on preference and not really stats.  It is based on your age and who you watched play the most as a kid.

It’s like asking someone who grew up in the 70’s if they think todays music is as good as it was back then.  Ok maybe that wasn’t the best comparison, because we all know the music from the 70’s rocked.  Anyway back to my point I am making.  I am asking, No I am begging everyone to please for the love of God stop with the Jordan vs LeBron debate and move on with your lives.  Discuss who this years MVP will be, or if the Warriors are better now than they were last year.  Discuss the Sixers and if you think Ben Simmons is going to be able to lead them along with Embiid to bigger and better things.  I don’t care if you discuss the weather, but please discuss anything except this.

If not only for the sake of my sanity please let this one go.  You will never find satisfaction in this debate.  I hope that I may have been able to sway some of you to get on the Anti-Jordan vs LeBron debate train, but I also know that some of you wont be able to help yourselves.  You will fall into the trap and be lured by the masses that want this debate to carry on.  It’s just really sad to see such good people carrying on this way.

Oh well I guess if it’s meant to live on then there is nothing more I can do to stop it.

Besides if you ask me Jordan would destroy LeBron anyway.  Don’t you think?
