Wojciech Szczesny returns to Roma on loan

Rome, Italy – Poland international goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will return to AS Roma on a season-long loan, Arsenal announced.

Szczesny made 42 appearances in all competitions and helped the club finish third place in Serie A last season.

The 26-year-old represented Poland at Euro 2016, keeping a clean sheet in the opening group game before injury ended his tournament.

The Poland international fell out of favor at Arsenal after being caught smoking in the showers following the 2-0 defeat to Southampton in January 2015.

He joined Arsenal in 2006 as a 16-year-old and debuted against West Brom in 2009. Since, Szczesny featured a total of 181 times for the first team.

“I’m very happy,” the Polish keeper declared to Roma TV. “After a good season last year I had possibility of coming back and I was very happy that the coach wanted me. I’m delighted to be back and I hope that we can improve on what we did last season.”
