WWE Rumor: Brand Extension “The End” Of NXT Takeover?

Major, major rumors were going on in wrestling circles yesterday, and it all had to do with the two major upcoming events going on with the WWE, those being the upcoming brand extension, as well as the upcoming NXT special, “NXT Takeover: The End“. While fans and industry insiders are looking forward to these two upcoming events, there are many within the IWC (Internet Wrestling Community) that the upcoming split (and impending draft) would spell “The End” of the popular NXT brand, well, part of it, which has been around since mid-2012.

“NXT Takeover: The End” will have a double main event, with the first being the NXT Women’s Championship match pitting champion Asuka vs Nia Jax, while for the first time in NXT history, the NXT Championship will be defended in a Steel Cage match, where champion Samoa Joe defends against former champ Finn Balor.

Now, for fans, you would figure they don’t exactly have anything to worry about, how could they think the end of NXT would be eminent? Well, the original name of the Takeover event was “NXT Takeover: Revenge”, a stark difference from what we have now. And while that doesn’t necessarily spell the ending of one of the company’s most popular creations to date, some believe it could actually become the last NXT Live Event to show on the WWE Network.

Another tidbit to fuel the idea behind this possible change is the sudden disappearance of the “NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II” event from TicketMaster’s website, as well as WWE’s. According to some reports, though, the event was supposedly taken down due to reediting the online promotional material for both sites, although there may still be developments to that.

Also, a list of potential draftees for both RAW and Smackdown has been making the rounds online, with a large number of NXT talent on both, which, if this list is indeed true, may be showing the last nail in the coffin for NXT.

On the list:

Also specified on the list is that WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns and WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte will appear on both shows. It is also expected that the Tag Champions (whomever they may be by the time the brand extension happens) will also be making appearances on both programs.

NXT continues to promote some upcoming live events, with Triple H tweeting the dates for some July house shows that will be taking place in Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Louisville starting on July 14th, with the short tour ending on July 16th, although, those aren’t the only house shows that are scheduled, as they still have a tour of the UK this month, as well.

At present time, however, nothing is on the schedule past the 16th of July, then again, it is still pretty early to determine that as the end of the brand altogether. We will all have to wait and see how this plays out.
