Xfinity Series Race Recap: Rinnai 250

Xfinity Series Winner at Atlanta Kyle Busch

NASCAR – Xfinity Series Race Recap

The Xfinity Series drivers took to the track for their second race of the season at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Kyle Busch started from the pole, but the race was quickly slowed by a caution involving Ty Dillon and Blake Koch.

On the ensuing restart, Kyle Busch led the way once again, but he slipped back to third early. The middle stages of the race were dominated by Brad Keselowski and Kevin Harvick.

Despite the new stage format, long runs were the order of the day throughout most of the race. A caution for Denny Hamlin’s spin on lap 119 brought the cars back down pit road. On the ensuing restart, Kevin Harvick began to have handling issues, and he slipped back to third before another caution on lap 144.

Kyle Busch emerged as the leader after pit stops, and would keep that lead for the rest of the day. With Brad Keselowski in tow and while weaving through some tight lapped traffic, Kyle Busch went to victory lane. It was his second straight victory at Atlanta in the Xfinity series.

Brad Keselowski, Kyle Larson, Kevin Harvick, and Elliott Sadler rounded out the top-5.

Darrell Wallace Jr hit the wall in stage 1 and nearly went a lap down, but rebounded to finish 6th.

There were 3 cautions for on-track incidents, totaling 13 laps.

Rookies William Byron, Daniel Hemric, and Cole Custer finished in the top-10.

Despite the rough surface, only 4 drivers suffered tire issues, a major departure from 2016.
