WCPW No More, Rebranding as Defiant Wrestling

If you had the chance to watch WCPW’s Refuse to Lose iPPV on October 2nd; then you were lucky enough to see the last WCPW event ever. After the departure of some notable WhatCulture personalities, the company has decided to go for a different direction.

Starting in December, WhatCulture Pro Wrestling will be rebranded as Defiant Wrestling; with their first show being the iPPV “WeAreDefiant”, which will take place at the O2 Academy in Newcastle. It will air on their new Access Defiant on-demand service, as well as on the FITE app.

Adam Blampied’s departure from WC was one that particularly made things difficult; as he was the on-screen general manager of the promotion. Replacing him is Stu Bennett, formerly Wade Barrett of the WWE; as he opened the Refuse to Lose to introduce himself to the WCPW fans.

Refuse to Lose was also the final WCPW show on the WhatCulture Extra Service; the old WCPW events will be moved to Access Defiant on December 1st. However, WhatCulture Extra will continue to host their other online content.

It was noted on the WCPW Twitter account that Defiant Wrestling would continue to broadcast free weekly shows; on their YouTube channel. They stated that more details on the rebranding would be made available in the coming weeks.

Exploding onto the UK wrestling scene last year, the company regularly brought major names into their shows; and with the financial backing of WhatCulture, they made major strides. They even held their first show in the US this year on WrestleMania weekend.

Following the YouTube demonetization debacle of earlier this year, which saw wrestling related content lose monetary ground; Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported some of the problems the promotion faced on the September 25th edition.
