ROH Announces Main Event for “Best in the World”

Ring of Honor will be holding their PPV event “Best in the World” at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium on June 23rd, and the card already seems stacked. But, the one match that fans look forward to is the main event; which pits ROH World Champion “Almighty” Christopher Daniels against “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes.

The 46-year old World Champion won the gold at ROH’s 15th Anniversary, defeating Bullet Club’s Adam Cole to capture the championship. Daniels’ partner, Frankie Kazarian “joined” Bullet Club, and together, they conspired to help Daniels to secure the title.

Daniels victory was a happy one, cementing him in ROH history as one of the true greats. However, because of their planning, it made them instant targets for BC; it opened the doors for one Cody Rhodes to make a run for the gold.

Rhodes’ first title opportunity came during the War of the Worlds event; where he managed to convince the champ to include him in his title defense.

Pitting Jay Lethal, Cody Rhodes, and Daniels in a triple threat match, Rhodes had a chance at claiming the gold; as the champ was momentarily out of the picture, having gone through a table.

With Lethal’s knee in tatters, after injuring his knee earlier in the match, Cody applied the figure four to Lethal. As Lethal lay there in pain, and with Cody distracted, Daniels connected with his Best Moonsault Ever; securing the victory and retaining the title.

Rhodes Petitions for Title Opportunity

Cody Rhodes, incensed by the loss, went on ROH Television to argue that Lethal’s shoulders were on the mat. Utilizing an observation by color commentator Colt Cabana; Rhodes complained that Lethal’s shoulder went to the mat moments before Daniels got the cover.

Rhodes’ claim is that because of that fact, he should be the rightful ROH World Champion. The match has been officially signed and it will happen Friday night, June 23rd, 2017 at “Best in the World”.
