Asuka Suffered Broken Collarbone at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn

Since making her debut in NXT in October of 2015, Asuka has taken the NXT Women’s division by storm. She has taken on and defeated all comers on her way to a 197-0 record in WWE. Unfortunately, at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn, she hit her first road block.

Asuka suffered a broken collarbone in her match against Ember Moon and she will miss 6-8 weeks. After the injury, the big question was what was going to happen to the NXT Women’s title. Well this past Wednesday, we found out the answer.

Asuka announced that she is relinquishing her title. This puts an end to her record reign of 510 days with the title. This injury comes at a bad time because Asuka was reportedly heading towards a main roster call-up after SummerSlam. Those plans have been put on hold until Asuka is totally recovered.

Injuries are never good. They’re especially not good when it affects one of the biggest stars in the company. The timing couldn’t have been worse for Asuka, who was due to debut on the main roster.

It also has to be a horrible feeling to relinquish a title you’ve worked so hard to get and to retain for all this time. But Asuka is tough. She broke her collarbone in the match and was able to complete the match normally. No one knew anything was wrong until it was announced the next day that she suffered the injury.

NXT will miss her while she’s gone. However, because she was on her way to the main roster, they probably have plans in place that don’t include Asuka. But that doesn’t make her loss any less significant.

Hopefully the recovery time is on the short side and Asuka is back soon!
